A country cottage – Short Story

The removal van with the last of her belongings had moved off an hour before the new owners of Honeysuckle Cottage came up the lane. Megan lifted the last of her geranium pots into the boot of her car and slammed it shut. She turned to look at the place that had been her home.

Love Walked Right In – Coming Soon

It’s getting closer by the minute… my next book Love Walked Right In, a sequel to Blue Moon, will be released on July 28th 2016.

Ruby and Jim Searle now run a guest house in Worthing, but when Jim starts to unravel a dark secret from his past, their troubles begin.

The guest house is in high demand and Ruby is asked to take in two German schoolboys on a cultural exchange. She agrees, but when they arrive they seem more like grown men and their activities are far from innocent.

As the country gears up for war, Ruby throws herself into war work as a distraction from her troubles at home but then the revelations from Jim’s childhood deepen, with devastating consequences.

Hot off the Press!

I have just completed the second draft of my next saga which is called Blue Moon. Just to give you a taster, it’s 1933 and Ruby Bateman works as a chambermaid in Warnes Hotel, Worthing. Her life is ordinary and uneventful until…

Ruby had reached room 40 and knocked the door. There was no answer so Ruby went in. The room was a tip and her heart sank. It was going to take some time to tidy all this. It looked as if the guest had thrown the whole of her wardrobe on the floor. A half packed case lay on the bed. Ruby tripped over a shoe as she walked in and found the matching pair on the dressing table. She began picking up dresses and putting them on the hangers in the wardrobe. The shoes went into a shoe rack. It was only as she reached the bed that Ruby noticed the blood. At first she struggled to comprehend what she was seeing. Had the guest started her monthlies in bed? She had come across that sort of thing before. Not very pleasant and embarrassing if she was in the room with the guest at any time, but an unavoidable fact of life. Yet something told her this was different. This was something more.

A Blast from the past

Books can bring back some wonderful memories but it’s a lot harder to evoke smells from the past. Recently, I was helping an old lady clear her house for a move to a Rest Home when I opened a drawer and disturbed something. A whiff of camphor took me back almost 40 years and I remembered my Gran’s Sunday best coat, hanging inside the mahogany wardrobe, its pockets bulging with mothballs
